According to sales data provided by VGChartz, the Nintendo Switch has now sold more units worldwide than the Nintendo 3DS. As of December 26, following an even more successful holiday period than last year, the Switch has reportedly sold 76.3 million units while the 3DS has only sold 75.9 million units.
Update 2/1/2021: As per Nintendo's latest financial report, we now have official confirmation that the Nintendo Switch has sold more units than the 3DS. As of writing this, the Switch has sold 79.87 million units worldwide.
Not only is this an impressive milestone for the Switch, but even more excitingly, the Switch is now narrowly outside of the list of the top 10 best selling game consoles of all time, and is looking to enter it later this year. The next consoles to beat are the PSP at ~80 million units, the GBA at 81.5 million units, the Xbox 360 at 84 million units, and the PS3 at 87.4 million units.
