RSS Frying the Switch

So, in following this guide to make a paperclip jig, it states "Make sure you DO NOT contact pad 4 when the console is booting/on. Pad 4 provides power to the Joycons and will fry your console if you bridge to it." Now, I may have done this, what exactly is fried? And if I have a second switch, can I fix this issue?
